Beer – the ‘weighty’ myths
By | Posted: April 14, 2009
Hands-up who ate too much chocolate at Easter and is now worried about fitting into a bikini this summer! If so, what drink would you chose if you were watching your weight – gin and tonic, wine…or beer?
When asked about their perceptions of beer and calorie content, 45% of women think they would put on weight if they started drinking beer and 16% think that a bottle of beer has more calories than a double gin and tonic, a can of cola and a large glass of wine.
However, the truth is a lot easier to swallow. In reality, swapping a glass of wine for a bottle of beer is a more sensible, low calorie option for women watching their weight:
Gin and tonic (177ml) has 143 calories
White wine (150ml) has 150 calories
Beer (250ml) has 108 calories
Despite the fact it has less calories, women simply see beer as fattening – do you?

WOW how we have been wrong for so long, i was shocked to realise G+T had more calories than a beer. I think now this imformation has been broadcast it will change womens perception of a beer belly and hopefully will encourage them to pick up a bottle of beer.
