What do you think about female beer drinkers?
By | Posted: April 30, 2009
Hope everyone is looking forward to the long weekend, and from the looks of it we’re going to have some great weather. I for one will definitely be going down to my local beer garden.
When we conducted the recent ‘love beer’ research, we were surprised to discover some of the stereotypes and perceptions towards those who drink beer.
In fact the social rules around beer drinking seem to be strong enough to have negatively shaped woman’s opinions of female beer drinkers, with 29% (increasing to 45% of 18-24 year olds) saying that female beer drinkers are manly or masculine, 23% binge drinkers, and 19% overweight.
What do you think about female beer drinkers? Do you agree or disagree with the opinions from our research?

I disagree – I’m a female beer drinker and i’m neither manly, masculine or overweight.
It’s about the presentation, if women are worried about looking too masculine, then just order half pints or bottled beers. Problem solved.

From working in pubs I think women view beer as a very masculine drink. If they do drink it, I think brands like corona are more popular as they look lighter and girlier. Perhaps a beer with a more femine logo would go down well, or a “diet” beer as they are also viewed as quite heavy.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with women beer drinkers. If its busy I’ll have a pint just like the men, saves keep going to the bar. Its not masculine at all

Women should not feel ashamed in any way when ordering a beer it’s a lower calorie product which would make them smarter than a women dieting with a wine in her hand. i just feel adverts have always been aimed at a male market creating the perception it’s a male orientated drink which hopefully the bittersweet team can change.
Women may frown upon women with a pint glass out of pure ignorance.
