Where are you most likely to drink beer?
By | Posted: April 9, 2009
The sun is shining and spring is here…what are your plans for going out over the long weekend?
Our ‘love beer’ research found that 90% of women we polled said their choice of drink varied according to the event they were at and who they were there with. The research showed that women are most likely to drink beer at gigs (31%) or festivals (33%) However, outside of these events the numbers are much lower – 6% of women would drink beer on a first date, 3% on a girls night in, 3% at a dinner party, and only 2% when meeting a partner’s parents for the first time.
Where are you most likely to drink beer? Are there places you’d never, ever even consider drinking it, or events you’d never drink anything but? Let us know your thoughts!

At home or at the pub like I always have. I have been drinking beer since a new drinker of 18 and have tried 100s of different beers, also when my father comes to stay we go out looking for different CAMRA pubs to visit.
I CAN’T BELIEVE THERE ARE WOMEN OUT THERE TOO EMBARRASSED TO DRINK BEER IN A PUB, THEY ARE MISSING OUT.
I myself have never realised there was a stigma attached to drinking beer and take greater offence to the notion of it I am sure there are a lot of women, like me, out there who have no problems with drinking beer in front of men.

Hi Tracey, Kristy from BitterSweet here. Great to know you love beer (I do too) – but our research showed that a third of women in the UK say they do enjoy drinking beer, but feel really uncomfortable and embarrassed to order it outside of music or sporting events. We also found out that only 6% of women would order beer on a first date and only 2% when meeting a partners’ partners for the first time – so unfortunately there are lots of barriers that do exist for women around drinking beer…
Really appreciate getting your feedback as we’re interested in talking to all women to get their thoughts – even people who already love beer!

As an American beer lover, I was shocked when I was told by a man in a pub in Ireland that “girls don’t drink beer out of pints”. I told him that girls most certainly do drink beer and proudly continued ordering pints in each pub stop throughout my trip.
I’m most likely to chose beer to drink when I’m at a sporting event or festival, camping, or BBQing with friends. Beer is particularly refreshing on a hot summer day. However, I’m more likely to order wine on a dinner date unless I see a unique beer choice on the menu that I’d like to try.
